Pays de Roquefort - Sud Aveyron, Long walks.

Moderate grade walking; discovering beautiful sceneries deep in rural France in the Pays de Roquefort.

From St.Affrique you'll walk via the Rougier Valley into the mountains of the Sud-Aveyron near de Monts de l'Orb and the the beautiful Plateau de Guilhaumard with its flower abundance, where you'll be walking in the headland of the Hauts de Languedoc and the Monts de Lacaune.

You will walk to Château de Montaigut and from there into a an unspoilt part of France where a main Bhouddist center has been established. The scenery of this remote part of the Massif Central is an open wooded mountainous region with lots of rivers and beautiful nature and permanent views on the mountains around you all along your walk.


You might hike for hours without meeting anyone except some shephards with their sheep.

The trip will lead into the Monts de L'Hérault, the Monts d'Orb and the Plateau de Guilhaumard before regaining the Sorgues valley to St. Affrique

As in all other tours of La Ligne Verte you'll spend 90% of the walk on (single) tracks and unpaved roads.

Villages you will pass are small villages with up to 200 inhabitants. St. Affrique is a small town with 9000 inhabitants. In between the villages, with the necessary stores, you will pass farms but will need to take your lunch with you.

The hotels can provide a take away picknick.
You will walk 3 to 4 kms per hour.

You will be staying  in **Logis de France hotels and some guesthouses ("de charme") in St. Affrique, Gissac, Camarès, Brusque, Ceilhes and Fondamente; for an extra night in *** guesthouse at the resurgence of an underground river (Château de Sorgues) you walk will pass on the Plateau de Guilhaumard.  Your last walk will be on the Causse du Larzac  you will visit Roquefort and its cheese caves.
